Teaching better practices

From 2014 to early 2016, Solidaridad implemented the UniSol project, together with UNICOOP (the national cooperative union of Paraguay), the UK retailer Marks & Spencer and the Sustainable Trade Initiative (IDH). The project aimed to improve the production practices of 2,400 smallholder soy farmers.

At the end of the project, 2,658 farmers, with a total of about 150,000 hectares, had been trained on improved sustainable agricultural practices. Solidaridad also trained around 100 technicians that reach out to these farmers. In terms of environmental conservation, 397 hectares of land have been reforested with native and exotic species. Solidaridad will continue to inspire others to replicate this approach or learn from it.
