The International Supervisory Board of Solidaridad Network is looking for an Executive Director who can provide vision and leadership to a rapidly growing global organization for international cooperation.

THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR:

  • Defining the meaningful outside: determine which external constituency matters most

  • Deciding what innovations we are focussing on: what are our core programmes, and which of them will we grow

  • Balancing present and future: ensure that stakeholders’ short-term interests do not overshadow the organization’s long-term future

  • Shaping values and standards: define the organization’s values, identity, quality standards and expectations in ways that encourage the right behaviour

You will have  the experience to understand and navigate a network-based organization with eight regional centres across five continents and have the ability to personally, inspirationally and authentically connect to the mission of Solidaridad, its staff and its partners and lead the organization to the next level.

You will be the focal point of Solidaridad Network and report to the International Supervisory Board. You will chair the Executive Board of Directors,  offer direct leadership to eight Regional Directors and a team of professionals at the Network Secretariat in Utrecht, the Netherlands, as well as to leaders of network teams. The Executive Director has overall responsibility for the state of the Network.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Protect the mission, values and integrity of the organization and ensure that Solidaridad is seen as a thought leader in the sector

  • Be the principal spokesperson of the organization, creating visibility and recognition

  • Position the organization as an effective leader in sustainability and inclusive economies

  • Offer direction and guidance to the strategy of the Solidaridad Network through a (multi-)annual planning, learning and reporting process with special attention to institutional growth, personal development of staff and improving the results and impact of programmes

  • Provide leadership to the Network Secretariat, which focuses on the network innovation areas, policy and programmes, and quality systems and services

  • Provide guidance and support to the managing directors (MD), evaluate their performance and take lead in recruitment procedures of new MDs

  • Create the conditions for quality of supervision at International Supervisory Board and Continental Supervisory Board levels

  • Guard the financial integrity of the organization and ensure transparency and accountability for the use of public and private funds only for public good

  • Ensure standards and mechanisms for ethical and respectful behaviour of staff at all levels and in all circumstances

  • Grow and maintain effective relationships with key donors, governments and private sector partners at a global level

  • Identify and materialize opportunities, find solutions for challenges and balance to mitigate risks

THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT MUST POSSESS THE FOLLOWING:

  • Exceptional proven leadership qualities and demonstrated ability to lead a global organisation with a commitment to results and impact, as well as an ability to work cross-culturally with a sound understanding of gender inclusivity Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field of science (international development, economics, business, agriculture or social sciences)

  • Proven experience in building enabling environments for sustainable and inclusive growth

  • Permanently looking for innovative solutions and partnerships with science and technology

  • Proven understanding of realities in our field programmes and among our local partners

  • Excellent understanding of the world of business and policy development

  • Sound judgement and ability to manage multiple priorities in a complex and changing environment

  • Excellent oral and written skills in English. Possession of additional language skills is a relevant extra

  • Proven ability to relate to and obtain funding from public and private donors

  • Willing and able to travel frequently

WHAT WE OFFER

  • Position as the statutory director of the Solidaridad Network Foundation

  • A permanent full-time position, based at the Network Secretariat in Utrecht, the Netherlands

  • Nomination is for a period of four years with an opportunity to renew for a term of four years maximum

  • An informal and professional work environment, with high standards of quality, output and delivery

This is a demanding role in which you have to work at the highest level, often under pressure and with tight deadlines. The salary will commensurate with your experience and qualifications and the responsibilities of the function. Salaries are capped under Dutch NGO regulation.
