This programme is an initiative to transform the domestic Indian tea industry based on industry realities and globally accepted sustainability principles. The initiative is led by the TBOI. The first phase from 2013-2016 was funded by IDH, HUL and TGB (total budget €3.5M).
The first phase was implemented by Solidaridad and resulted in 31% of the Indian tea achieving Trustea certification standards. Solidaridad tea teams continue to work towards the structural solutions for the range of industry issues including wages, health, sanitation, housing and nutrition that affects industry productivity and lowers producers’ profitability.
