Scoping the market for individual fundraising in Germany
While we have a long legacy and supporter base in the Netherlands, we have a very young existence in Germany without any focus on individual giving. Hence, brand awareness in Germany is low. As Solidaridad Deutschland e.V. seeks to diversify its funding base, entering the German individual giving market has been identified as a key opportunity. This consultancy will support us in determining which target audiences offer the best entry points for individual fundraising in Germany.
Objective of the Assignment
The objective of this consultancy is to provide a concise, evidence-based market scoping analysis to guide Solidaridad’s individual fundraising strategy in Germany, with specific recommendations on:
- Which audience segments are most relevant and promising to target
- Key risks, opportunities, and practical considerations
Scope of Work
The consultant will undertake a:
- Market & Competitor Analysis
- Map the current individual giving landscape in Germany
- Analyze giving behaviour by audience segments (age, interests, donation patterns)
- Identify and benchmark at least 5 comparable NGOs in Germany that operate in areas such as international agricultural supply chains, fair value distribution, and climate justice, supporting smallholder farmers and workers at the beginning of international supply chains like coffee, cocoa, fashion, and palm oil.
- Review their strategies, value propositions, and channel mix.
- Target Audience Scoping: identify 2-3 promising target audiences based on:
- Alignment with Solidaridad’s mission
- Giving capacity and habits
- Digital responsiveness
- Feasibility and recommendations for campaign rollout
- Recommend target group focus for a pilot campaign rollout
- Recommend next steps, including data needs, tools or partnerships
This assignment does not include the identification of a channel mix or campaign approach for the selected audience; however, these elements may be addressed in a subsequent assignment.
