Artisanal oil palm processing is a traditional method widely used by small-scale producers, particularly in rural areas in Ghana. Artisanal processors supply more than 60% of the country’s palm oil.
The Sustainable Artisanal Oil Palm Processing Programme (SAPP) is supporting artisanal oil palm processing centres in the Central, Eastern, Ashanti, Western, Western North, Volta, and Ahafo regions of Ghana. The goal is to modernize the centres with a financial facility. Solidaridad provides technical advice and new equipment to increase the efficiency of the processing centres, improve working conditions and reduce emissions.
