Gender inclusivity in small-scale mining: livelihood needs assessment

About 51% of workers in the small-scale gold mining sector in Ghana are women, yet they are disadvantaged and excluded from the potentially lucrative and poverty-alleviating opportunities that small-scale mining could offer.
A recent study commissioned by Solidaridad and Kering sought to identify livelihood opportunities for women in gold mining communities. The report offers a wide range of mining and non-mining related opportunities that have the potential of improving the livelihoods of women living in small-scale gold mining communities in Ghana, once properly harnessed.
